Abandoned Château

This stunning château in eastern France has been unoccupied for many years, and is a popular location with European photographers who are privy to its rural village location.

Often referred to by the nom de plume ‘Château Lumiêre’ - or Castle of Light, presumably due to the large light well which spans a number of its spacious, luxurious floors, little seems to be known of the history of this stunning stately home, but the style would suggest it dates from the late 1700s to the early 1800s, or there abouts.

A number of large caliber bullet holes in the stone walls fronting this property suggest this area may have been witness to armed conflict - presumably during WWll.

After complimenting a very talented German photographer for her stunning image inside this building, she was generous enough to provide me with the coordinates to this historic property, which I was lucky enough to visit during European travels in 2019.
